Hurricane Katrina: another devastating natural disaster

Our heartfelt sympathies are with the people of the United States as they go through the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. This is just another example of how vulnerable the human population is, in the face of large-scale natural disasters. The former US Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton have contributed significantly to the relief efforts after the tsunami, and both visited Maldives as part of the United Nations relief and reconstruction efforts. Our condolences are with the families of the victims of the hurricane and we wish the United States a speedy recovery.
