Oxfam distributing bottled water in Maldives

The blog Kinshasa On The Potomac says Oxfam is distributing in Maldives a 55-ton bottled water shipment donated by the British Somerfield supermarket chain. Lack of safe drinking water is a problem several islands face after the tsunami hit the Maldives.

A quote from an Oxfam press release says:

"This bottled water will keep people alive for a week or so until there are improvements in distribution and desalinization methods,” said Manolo Bedran, Oxfam’s water and sanitation engineer in the Maldives. “There are small isolated communities on outlying islands whose water supplies have been destroyed and who are utterly reliant on aid. This will go to them.”"
